Race Report: R9 Road Atlanta

To no surprise Road Atlanta provided scintillating racing action, leaving neither the Drivers' or Teams' Championships decided going into the final Round...

We return to Road Atlanta which was championship leader Cranstone’s top circuit last season, winning both the sprint race and feature race.

He continues his form by taking another pole position. Followed by the Pulsus boys of King and Morse.

Bayliffe is up there once again in P4 for Win It or Bin It which unfortunately can’t be said for his teammate Fox who struggled to find free space and will start P28.

Oliver sits out qualifying and will have to start both races from the pit lane after reaching the limit for incident points throughout the season.

King gets a better start than Cranstone and holds it round the outside of T1 and T3 to take the lead of the sprint race!

Chaos ensues behind as Dempsey turns into the side of Alfer-Henriksen causing the pair to spin off.

Morse out brakes himself into the chicane on Lap 1 which causes his teammate King to lose the lead. Cranstone retakes it. C.Smith is busy fighting for reverse grid pole but gets punted by Marais and receives a meatball.

He has had some horrid luck this season… Lap 3 Morse gets passed by King, Bayliffe, Burkhard and R.Smith as a move for the lead didn’t pay off. Meanwhile Thornton and Weiswange are fighting for P30 in the standings with just 2 points separating them.

Thornton looks like he will finish ahead of Weiswange in the sprint. Final Lap, Cranstone leads Burkhard.

It’s like Lime Rock Park all over again. King has dropped down to P4 Burkhard pulls off a fantastic move around the outside.

It’s Cranstone making it a 100% record at Road Atlanta as he takes the chequered flag. Ridley takes P12 to secure reverse grid pole.

Ridley loses the lead after getting a poor start.

However, Caylor and Ridley both go off in T1 gifting the lead to Germany. Farr and Huffman follows him through.

Heading into Lap 2, Downing and Morse make contact in T1 starting off a chain of events. Drivers caught up in the incident include: Majerech, Burkhard, Cranstone, Bayliffe, Fox, Ridley and Vanolst.

All of these drivers received a meatball flag except Bayliffe and Morse. Huffman now leads from Germany and Farr, with King a couple of seconds down the road.

After just 4 laps Van Der Woude is having a great race making up 9 positions! Huffman starts to pull away as Germany and Farr do battle behind. King pits early to make sure he doesn’t get caught up in any incidents.

After all the pit stops have been completed Huffman keeps his lead and extents it to over 2 seconds! Further down the field Burkhard and Cranstone are making up ground following the big one at the start. They have made it up to P7 and P8 respectively so far. Huffman wins the feature race by an impressive 4.8 seconds followed by a return to form from King and Germany who complete the podium for Pulsus eSports.

Burkhard and Cranstone are separated by just 0.021 seconds over the line. Thornton finishes in the points again to pull clear of Wieswange for P30 in the standings.

Shoutouts to Downing and Wallace for a strong showing this round. Cranstone takes a 55 point lead into the final round.

The championship is looking like a hard task for Burkhard but it’s not over yet. The constructors championship rolls over to the final round as well.
